"The Qualities We Seek in Medical School Applicants" will be presented by James Choi and Kathi Huebner. Choi is from the anesthesiology department and Huebner is director of admissions, both at the University of Iowa's Carver College of Medicine.

Based on Green Day’s Grammy Award-winning multiplatinum album and featuring the hits “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Holiday,” and the blockbuster title track, AMERICAN IDIOT boldly takes the American musical where it’s never gone before. With direction by Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening), choreography by Steven Hoggett (Black Watch), and orchestrations and arrangements by Tom Kitt (Next to Normal), the result is an experience Charles Isherwood of The New York Times declares “thrilling, emotionally charged, and as moving as any Broadway musical I’ve seen this year!”

The UNI Forensics team will host its annual speech showcase. This event features some of the best speech competitors in the nation. Doors open at 6:45 p.m.; free and open to the public. 

A group of diverse panelists will discuss their experiences of raising children in today’s society, with a focus on gender-neutral and feminist parenting. Women's History Month events are sponsored by UNI Women's and Gender Studies Program. 

The Department of Physics will host the UNI/Area Education Agency 267 Regional Physics Competition for high school students. Events include self-propelled catapult, mousetrap car, bridge building, soda straw arm, challenge problem and material recovery facility (MRF). The MRF is sponsored by the Iowa Recycling Association. The College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences is providing lunch and information about programs for participating students and teachers. Regional winners and runners-up advance to the State of Iowa Physics Competition on April 17 at the McLeod Center. 

UNI School of Music faculty artist Amanda McCandless will present a clarinet recital. This event is free and open to the public.

Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the inaugural Earth Week Photo Contest reception. Ben Hoksch will present photos from his recent kayak travels on the Mississippi River. The top 20 finalists' photos will be displayed and the top three cash prize winners will be announced at the completion of the event. Appetizers will be served.

Celebrate feminism and women’s accomplishments through story, poetry, music and food. Women's History Month events are sponsored by the Women's and Gender Studies Program. 

The competition showcases outstanding recent works by students in the Department of Art. The juror for this year's exhibition is Fred Burton, professor of painting and drawing at Memphis College of Art. The awards ceremony will take place at 7 p.m., Mon., March 25, in KAB 111. An opening reception will follow. All events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday; noon to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday; and by appointment.

Based on the hilariously popular book, the play begins where the book leaves off, with Alexander T. Wolf on trial for the murder of two of the three little pigs. Fast-talking independent reporter pig, Lillian Magill, claims nobody has ever heard the Wolf’s side of the story, and she is hungry for the truth. The Honorable Prudence Pig, a tough as nails judge with a weakness for musical theater presides over the case. A sharp, smooth-talking lawyer pig named Julia is the prosecuting attorney, and she always gets her way. Al is a soulful charmer with a love of gourmet cooking and the fine arts. He takes the stand in his own defense, but it looks as though the piggy world is against him. After all, he is a carnivore to the core, but is he also the victim of a media frame-up? Will Magill get her journalistic glory? GUILTY or NOT GUILTY? When all the witness statements are in, the audience piglets become the jury and determine Al’s fate! Are YOU afraid of the Big, Bad Wolf? What really happened? YOU decide!
