Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra ftg. Cedar Valley Chamber Music Festival

The concert will be titled "What Happens to a Dream Deferred?" and will feature works by Frank Proto and Henry Cowell. This event is part of the Reaching for Higher Ground series and is free and open to the public.

Guest Artist Recital: Melissa Plamann, organ

Plamann is an accomplished organist and has earned degrees in organ performance with a bachelor's degree from Valparaiso University and a Master of Music degree from Emory University. Plamann completed her Doctor of Music degree in organ performance at Indiana University. She has performed throughout the United States and Europe, and has taught courses in organ literature and church music at both Indiana University and Emory University. Plamann is currently University Organist and Wanda L. Bass Chair of Organ at Oklahoma City University. This event is free and open to the public.

Guest Artist Recital: Trio Solari

One of the most dynamic chamber ensembles touring the world today, Trio Solari has appeared at OKMozart International Music Festival, Thy Chamber Music Festival in Denmark, University of Michigan, Rice University and University of Notre Dame, among others. All three members of the trio (Chad Burrow, clarinet, Yung-Hsiang Wang, violin, and Amy I-Lin Cheng, piano) have held significant academic positions, and are firmly committed to educational outreach as well as audience development through lecture-performances. Guest Artist Recital: Lynn Vartan & Matthew Coley, percussion

Lynn Vartan is an international performer and educator who is an advocate for diversity in music. A devoted ensemble musician, Lynn is the percussionist for Southwest Chamber Music, the violin/percussion duo 61/4 which she founded with Shalini Vijayan, and a duo percussion group she formed with Tambuco's Miguel Gonzalez. She received her Master's and Doctorate degrees with special honors and recognition from the University of Southern California. Lynn is currently the Director of Percussion at Southern Utah University. Matthew Coley performs regularly as a soloist throughout the US and Europe, and has performed with the Cedar Valley Chamber Music Festival, San Francisco Sinfonietta, Moldavian Philharmonic and Tele-Radio Orchestras, and Kurpfalzisches Kammerorchester Mannheim. He has been featured on Chicago’s WFMT Classical Radio Station and has presented concerts and master classes at universities in over 15 states, as well as Denmark, Germany, Moldova, and Sweden.
