Majora Carter will be the keynote speaker for the Sustainability Dialogue and Action Conference. Carter is an urban revitalization strategist and public radio host from the South Bronx area of New York City. She founded the non-profit environmental justice solutions corporation Sustainable South Bronx. Since 2008, her consulting company, MCG has exported climate adaptation, urban revitalization and leadership development strategies for business, government, foundations, universities and economically under-performing communities.

Join the dialogue and action to envision a sustainable world and the transformation needed to create it. Students, community, faculty and staff are invited to attend and contribute your voice to a shared  vision of a sustainable future.

Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the inaugural Earth Week Photo Contest reception. Ben Hoksch will present photos from his recent kayak travels on the Mississippi River. The top 20 finalists' photos will be displayed and the top three cash prize winners will be announced at the completion of the event. Appetizers will be served.

"Reinventing the World" is a series for all those who want to know the good news about how we can reinvent the world to make it work better for all of us. This three-part series of documentaries with host Des Kennedy looks at some of the biggest challenges facing us today - work and time, food, and urban sustainability - and how innovative thinkers and doers from the famous to the obscure, from Berkeley to Sao Paolo, Brazil, are coming up with some of the ways of getting there from here. 

Michael A. Levi is the David M. Rubenstein senior fellow for energy and the environment at the Council on Foreign Relations. The author of the book On Nuclear Terrorism, he has written for the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, WIRED, Foreign Affairs, the New Republic, Slate and other publications. He is a frequent adviser to government and business and a regular guest on major television and radio. Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend this live discussion via conference call. Those attending will also be able to ask questions following the presentation. 

"Build Green" shows how, by taking advantage of the sun, wind, rain, dirt, straw and waste, homeowners and developers can reduce their personal contribution to climate change by building structures that are healthier for the occupants, economical to run and even fun to live in. 

The film "The Blue Nuns Go Green" is presented by the Recycling and Reuse Technology Transfer Center. Several years ago, the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters' home earned a reputation as a national model of sustainable living. Since then the Sisters have developed an array of multimedia educational resources that include DVDs, books, a children's storybook, a quarterly bulletin and prayer cards on sustainability and the spirituality of sustainability. This film tells the story of the transformational spirituality that led the IHM Sisters to sustainably renovate their 376,000-square-foot Motherhouse.

"Pete McCloskey: Leading from the Front" tells the colorful story of former Republican Congressman Pete McCloskey who was both a Marine war hero in Korea and a leading peace advocate during the Vietnam war. This documentary cuts through contemporary biases based on ideologies and party affiliations to open a unique window into an important span of our nation's history.

The RRTTC & the CEEE will present a screening of the film Pipe Dreams. The film discusses the impact and consequences of the proposed Keystone XL pipeline stretching from Alberta, Canada to the Texas Gulf Coast. Tom Poor Bear, the Vice President of the Oglala Nation from Pine Ridge, will speak following the film. Tom Poor Bear has been a leader in the effort to protect native lands and water supplies from the proposed Keystone XL pipeline. 

Join the RRTTC and CAB for a free screening of the movie Wall-E. The film will be shown at 7 and 9:30 p.m. in honor of UNI Earthweek Celebration. Free snacks and beverages will be provided but remember to bring your own reusable cup!
