Earth Science Week: Sunday at the Quarry

As part of national Earth Science Week, the public is invited to an event at the Raymond Quarry to learn about rocks, minerals and Iowa geology. Participants can collect rocks, minerals, fossils and learn about the natural resources in the state, including the limestone industry. Faculty and students from the Department of Earth Science will be on hand to provide information about rocks and minerals. Also participating will be personnel from Iowa Geological Survey, IOWATER, and the Black Hawk County Gem and Mineral Society.

Earth Science Seminar: Geology Field Camp Experiences

Madison Pike and Alison Schell, geology majors, will discuss their experiences at field camps in Colorado and South Africa. Attending and successfully completing a field camp course is one of the culminating experiences of a geology major’s undergraduate education and provides them the opportunity to extend the knowledge they have gained from UNI courses to a variety of situations and settings.
