UNI Interpreters Theatre Auditions
Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 11/13/2012 - 9:00pmAuditions for CONVICT, written and directed by Joshua Hamzehee, will be held on Tuesday, November 13 from 7-9pm and on Thursday, November 15 from 6-8pm. The auditions are open to all UNI students and also community members. No preparation or prior experience necessary.
There are 10 roles available, both males and females are encouraged to audition for all roles.
The production is set in a men's prison and follows the experience of Cyrus, a single father convicted of murder. CONVICT explores the liminal space between guilt and innocence, our expectations of masculinity, and our overcrowded penal system's tendency to punish rather than rehabilitate.

Film Documentary: "Sons of Jacob Synagogue"
Submitted by Anonymous on Sun, 11/11/2012 - 6:00pm"Sons of Jacob Synagogue" an hour-long documentary produced and directed by Francesca Soans and Robert Neymeyer, explores the histories and experiences of the Jewish community in Waterloo, from the early immigrants seeking new opportunities to the present day. The film is the first in a five-part unique documentary series, "Waterloo: A History of Place." The series examines the history of Waterloo through community memories of everyday places--a synagogue, a department store, a neighborhood, a factory and a movie theater. The screening is free and open to the public.

Film Screening: "Racing Dreams"
Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 10/16/2012 - 8:30pmMarshall Curry, two-time Academy Award nominee, will be the second visiting filmmaker in the William and Stephanie Clohesy Documentary Film Series. Curry will host a screening of the Academy Award nominated documentary Racing Dreams. This film follows two boys and a girl who dream of one day racing in NASCAR. The film won numerous awards including the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival Award for Best Documentary.

Curry will host a screening of the Academy Award nominated documentary Street Fight. This film won the Audience Awards at the Tribeca Film Festival, AFI/Discovery SilverDocs Festival and Hot Docs Festival. It also received the Jury Prize for Best International Documentary at Hot Docs and was nominated for a Writer's Guild of America Award.

Curry will host a screening of 2012 Academy Award nominee for best documentary If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation. The film tells the story of a radical environmentalist who faced life in prison for burning two Oregon timber facilities. It won the Sundance Film Festival award for Best Documentary Editing and was nominated for a Writer's Guild Award.

Siddens III, communication studies, tells the story of three complete strangers with pasts they are all reluctant to reveal, who find themselves in an unusual predicament. They have been led to a well-appointed room they are to share; where there is a door, but they can never leave; there are lights but they never go out; and it’s unbearably hot. Admission is free; tickets are available one hour before the production begins. Curtain time is 7:30pm.
