Edward Gillan, department of chemistry at the University of Iowa, will present "Precursor Routes to Unusual Structures of Phosphides, Nitrides, and Oxides for Photocatalysis or Electrocatalysis."
Chemistry and Biochemistry
The UNI Student Chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS), in collaboration with students from the departments of biology, physics and earth science, will host a “Halloween House.” UNI students will perform Halloween-themed science demonstrations and supervise hands-on activities in rooms such as the “Pirates’ Cove," “Frankenstein’s Lab," “Creepy Crawlies" and “Spooky Spelunking." This event is free and open to the public. Costumes are welcome. The activities are intended for elementary age children, but can be enjoyed by children of all ages.

Kelly Nelson, MS, MT (ASCP), instructor, Medical Laboratory Science Program at Mayo School of Health Sciences, will present "Medical Laboratory Science."
Jon Humston, graduate student at the University of Iowa, will present "Compressive Sampling Really Works: Applications in Chemistry."
Erik Brincks, senior scientist at NewLink Genetics in Ames, will present "How to use your chemistry degree to cure cancer (without actually doing any chemistry)."
Students who attended the American Chemical Society National Meeting in San Diego will give short presentations on their experiences. Those who are currently doing research and those who will be doing research this summer are especially encouraged to attend.
UNI alumni Jill Humston, Jan King and Tori Quist Wagner will discuss "What's It Like To Be A Science Teacher?" They will share their experiences in teaching chemistry and science in K-12 schools.
Anna McGee, Career Services, will present "Discovering Where You Want To Go...And Getting There!" She will discuss job search and networking strategies to drive your success in seeking and landing opportunities both now and in the future.
