Join Tallgrass Prairie Center staff for a leisurely campus wildflower walk and experience the beauty of native plants.
Andrew Ridgway will defend his thesis titled "Density and Diversity of Bees in the Midwestern Agricultural Landscape."
The UNI Botanical Center spring plant sale will include the usual variety of herbs and vegetables. There will also be a limited number of perennials from our campus gardens such as daylilies, Japanese iris and hosta, as well as an assortment of bulbs and plants from the tropical collection and flowering annuals. Come early for the best selection. Plants will be in classroom #26 on the north side of the center.
UNI STEM ambassador Nicole Hindman will lead a tour of the Botanical Center. Participants will see, smell and touch a distinct collection of plant species from around the world. Succulent plant cuttings will be available.
Jordan Young, M.S in biology candidate, will defend her thesis "Effects of soil type and plant diversity on soil respiration and litter decomposition in a tallgrass prairie biofuel production system."
Jessica Riebkes, M.S. in Biology candidate, will defend her thesis "Effects of Predator Satiation on Seed Predation in New Roadside Prairie Plantings."
"Making Ecological Restoration More Effective: Ideas From the Midwest and Around the World" will be presented by Susan Galatowitsch, Department of Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Biology at the University of Minnesota. This event is hosted by the Tallgrass Prairie Center. Open to the public.
