UNI Teacher Education Induction Convocation

The College of Education will host its bi-annual Teacher Education Induction Convocation for students who have satisfied requirements for admission into the teacher education program. The Convocation is the official induction of students into the program. Leigh Martin, international and out-of-state student teaching coordinator/supervisor, Office of Student Field Experiences, will deliver the convocation address. This will be the 45th group of candidates inducted into the teacher education program. Parents and friends of the candidates, as well as faculty and administrators, are invited; a reception will follow in the GPAC lobby.

My American Dream

As part of Reaching for Higher Ground events “Critical Conversations: Voices of the Cedar Valley” a class of 6th grade students at Carver Academy will showcase their photography and writing about the topic, “My American Dream.” These students, as a part of a service-learning partnership with a Wartburg College course, participated in a PhotoVoice project in which they took photos and wrote about their conceptions of the American Dream. This event, co-sponsored by the parent involvement committee at Carver Academy, will involve students, families and community leaders engaged in dialogue about the implications the students' stories have for practice, research and policy change in the local, state and national educational arena.

Teacher Education Induction Convocation

Students that have satisfied the requirements for admission into the UNI Teacher Education Program are invited to participate in the official induction of students into that field of study.  Rick Vanderwall, instructor in the Department of Languages and Literatures, will deliver the convocation address. Becky Hawbaker, chair of the Teacher Education Faculty, will present the candidates.  Michael Licari, associate provost, Academic Affairs, and dean of the Graduate College, will grant the candidates admission to the teacher education program. The pinning and affirmation of candidates will be by Becky Hawbaker. Parents and friends of the candidates are invited to attend along with UNI faculty and administrators.  A reception will follow in the GBPAC lobby.
