Leadership Development Certificate Program

This certificate program offered by UNI's Executive Development Center is designed to turn good managers into great leaders. You will be challenged to change from thinking like a manager to thinking like a strategic leader. The target audience for this program is the experience manager who desires to move into a senior leadership position. Anyone can attend our programs regardless of whether they have attended college.
WHEN: Classes begin August 8 and conclude on November 28, 2012. Classes are scheduled approximately every other Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
WHERE: Classes will be conducted in UNI's Business and Community Services building, room 30.

COST: Tuition is $3,150 per person which includes all training materials, lunches, refreshments and UNI parking privilege. In addition, businesses can enroll a second person at a further discounted price of only $1,575. Limit one $1,575 price enrollment per business. Tuition for nonprofit employees is $1,575.
ENROLLMENT DEADLINE: Class size is limited to 20 participants so be sure to reserve your seat early! Registration ends August 1, 2012.

WHAT: Success occurs one conversation at a time. Businesses are losing billions of dollars every year because communication is ineffective, misunderstood and misinterpreted. This failure is measured by absenteeism, turnover, unproductive time and grievance filings.
Four conversation models will be examined and practiced:
1. Team conversations
2. Coaching conversations
3. Delegation conversations
4. Confrontation conversations
During class, you will:
-Identify practices that are holding you back from open and meaningful conversations.
-Gain the capacity to connect with your colleagues and customers at a deeper level.
-Engage in active dialogue sessions applying the key practices that lead to more open, candid and respectful communication.

Executive Development Center: Project Management Workshop

Communication is an essential skill for all project managers and organizational leaders. In this course participants learn how to develop a communication management plan to improve success in meeting project objectives. The communication management plan provides the project manager and project team with a roadmap for managing project communication including managing stakeholder expectations and reporting progress.
This class is taught by a Registered Education Provider with the Project Management Institute. Participants will be awarded credits from the instructor that can be used toward the Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or toward continuing education credits for those who already hold the PMP designation.

Many project managers ask how they can influence project outcomes when they have responsibility but very little authority. This course focuses on the dynamics of working with people and their complexities including rank, personality, and professional position. The course outlines strategies for working through situations including conflict resolution, negotiation, influencing, and managing upward and across.
