Summer Arts Adventures will be held at Lincoln Elementary in Waterloo, Iowa.  A wide selection of enrichment courses will be offered. Some sample classes include photography, visual arts, dance, foreign language, drama, music, math, creative writing, science and many more.  Our goal is to make Arts Education fun AND available for all children through camp scholarships.

Logistics: $100.00 registration fee includes programming and individual camper supplies. Lunch and a snack are provided daily.

Have you ever dreamed of being a fashion or interior designer? We'll start with your fantasy fashion design and bring it to life using computer-aided design software. You'll discover the STEM in design as you learn how to develop a 'spec sheet', design your own print fabric, test fabric in the materials testing lab and create a backpack from your own print. The second half of the week will focus on interior design. You'll learn how to transform you dream room into a professional interior design plan and share your creations with family and friends during a final day open house.

Explore the power of technology to communicate and tell stories. Digital storytelling requires mastery of technical design skills and the development of interesting narratives. The camp begins with sessions on Adobe Photoshop and iMovie basics then transitions into time to create, at your own pace, your own original narrative story master project. Previous campers have created comic books, animated shorts, card games and more.

Four Tuesdays of Wind and Solar fun. Explore engineering as you build and test your own model solar vehicle and design a wind turbine. Investigate which materials work best in the design of passive solar buildings. Get your hands on some of the tools used to maintain wind turbines and explore energy related STEM Careers.

The conference will look back at the North American Review’s long and storied past while also looking to the future of the literary world as we bring together a wide range of writers, critics, artists and teachers from around the country to share their work. Featured speakers include fiction writer Steven Schwartz, memoirist Patricia Hampl and poet Martin Espada. Registration will in the Thompson Commons of Bartlett Hall.

The mission of the SportAbility of Iowa Adapted Sports Camp is to give qualified young people from Iowa, second grade through high school and with various lower limb disabilities, an opportunity to participate in various types of athletic events using a sports wheelchair. The camp promotes wheelchair awareness and provides healthy recreational activities for kids with disabilities. Activities such as wheeling around campus with their teammates to meals, recreational games, other skill activities and pure fun are important for learning. Athletes enjoy traditional camp and recreation activities, while they are improving daily living, sensory-motor-perceptual, strengthening and hand-eye coordination skills.

Monday, June 22, 2015 (All day) to Tuesday, June 23, 2015 (All day)

The institute will educate, motivate, inform and transform. Speakers include: Paula Kluth, Darlene Hanson, Harvey Lavoy, Pascal Cheng Tracy Thresher and more. Kluth is a nationally recognized expert on autism and inclusive education. Her publications include: "You're Going to Love This Kid," "Don't We Already Do Inclusion" and many more. The institute is for individuals on the autism spectrum and with other developmental and communication disabilities; friends, allies, families; educators, therapists and support providers. College students and university faculty are welcome.
