View the night sky through the computer-controlled telescope at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences observatory.  This event is free and open to the public; meet before 9 P.M. to get to the observatory (near the polar bear).  No late admissions.  No cell phones, food or drink allowed.

Under the direction of UNI percussion faculty Ryan Frost and Matthew Andreini, the UNI Percussion and West African Drum Ensembles will offer their final spring concert along with UNI’s Taiko drum ensemble Kaji-Daiko and the UNI Marimba Ensemble. This event is free and open to the public.

An evening of wings and discussion, followed by the popular film “If Beale Street Could Talk.” Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice (DIS) Jamie Chidozie will be leading a diverse student panel of 4-6 students panel over “Depiction of Race (including ethnicity and culture) in the Media.” The audience will have an opportunity to ask questions while enjoying wings, popcorn, and pop, with the movie to follow the panel. Everything is free, and students, staff, and faculty are all invited to attend!

The Land Stewardship Project's Brian DeVore, author of Wildly Successful Farming: Sustainability and the New Agricultural Land Ethic, will be giving a presentation at the Restoration and Management Seminar.

Sigma Phi Epsilon is hosting a Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) training and Self Defense Class in collaboration with the UNI Center for Violence Prevention and UNI Police Department. Attendees will have the option to choose between these two trainings.

The MVP Program inspires leadership by empowering individuals with tools to lead and with concrete options to effect change in their peer cultures, as well as with younger students and others. It views all individuals not as potential perpetrators or victims, but as empowered bystanders who can recognize and confront harassment and abuse before, during and after the fact.

UNI Police Officers will lead a informational class on self defense with an opportunity to learn simple techniques that will allow you to avoid danger when possible or escape as a last option.

The Department of Physics will host the State of Iowa Physics Competition. Participating high school students qualified at regional competitions and represent the top teams from Area Education Agencies across the state. The competition is a series of five events that stress creativity, ingenuity and an understanding of physics-related ideas and is intended to stimulate interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Events include catapult, mouse trap car, toothpick bridge, soda straw arm and challenge problem.

Faculty artist and conductor Amy Kotsonis will coordinate this interactive event, featuring women’s chorus ensembles from Iowa high schools, as well as UNI’s own Women’s Chorus. The event will culminate in an evening concert at 6:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public, but the festival does require registration.
