Welcome to Student Support Services!
Student Support Services (SSS) is one of five federally-funded TRiO programs at the University of Northern Iowa. TRiO programs are a vital element in the effort to make college accessible to all citizens of the United States. First-generation college students, students from low-income backgrounds, and students with a disability have all, historically, faced obstacles in the pursuit of higher education, which is the foundation of social and economic mobility. Programs like ours have been providing support to pre-college and college students since the mid-1960s. Our program has assisted eligible UNI students since 1984.
Offering a wide variety of supportive services, we firmly believe that we can help students reach their goal of graduating from the University. Student Support Services advisors are trained in the Appreciative Advising model and are knowledgeable about campus policies and procedure. Our staff is involved in campus committees, as well as state and national organizations, that promote the success of college students from underrepresented groups. Please browse the various links our our webpage to get acquainted with the ways we can help you.
If you are new to TRiO, I encourage you to learn more about Student Support Services. If you are already familiar with the benefits of involvement in a TRiO program, I encourage you to make your opinion known by contacting political office-holders and candidates, especially those seeking national office, including our U.S. Representatives and Senators, as well as the President.
Best of luck as you pursue your dream of a college degree!
"Without the support of my SSS advisor and the academic services provided I do not think I would have been successful in my college career."
