Preparing for the PPST Reading Test?

Even good readers can have difficulty with the PPST-Reading test.

If your ACT Reading score is below 25 or you generally do not score well on standardized reading exams, you may want to prepare for the PPST-Reading test, one of the three basic skills assessments required for admission to the Teacher Education Program.

We offer a free, non-credit, four-week course (12 contact hours) to prepare for the PPST-Reading test. We’ve created the course to acquaint UNI students with the test and practice the strategies that will be useful for reading comprehension tests like this one.

Students preparing to take or retake the PPST-Reading test are invited to register for the course, which is offered in fall, spring, and summer sessions. What do we cover? Here’s a brief list:

  1. standard types of questions, and strategies for approaching each type;
  2. coping with long passages;
  3. coping with very short passages, those pesky “reading logic” passages; and
  4. succeeding despite stress and uncertainty.

Register for PPST-Reading (the free, four-week course) in person (008 ITTC) or online (http://www.uni.edu/unialc/). Questions? Inquire at 008 ITTC or 273-2361. PPST-Reading is taught by Dr. Karen Agee, Reading and Learning Coordinator.
