2007-08 Scholarship Recipients  
   
Chelsea Cunningham
A senior from Des Moines, Chelsea Cunningham is pursuing a major in Communication & Theatre Arts 7-12. She has worked in educational and children’s theatre for the Des Moines Playhouse, Sturgis Youth Theatre and Waterloo East High School Theatre Department as well as serving as a stage manager, director, painter, projectionist, or in costume construction of several Theatre UNI and UNISTA productions. Her performance experience includes the BASIC Drama Team, Ministry Women’s Retreat, staged readings of The Misses Pirie and Woods and The Music Lesson, UNISTA productions of Scarlet Sails and Women of Winter, the Lampost Theatre production of Pyrates and Theatre UNI productions of A Chorus Line, In the Heart of America, and The Tender Land. This semester, Chelsea is playing the role of Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
   
Sam Garles
Sam Garles is a senior theatre performance major from Fairfield, Iowa. During his tenure at UNI, Sam has appeared in Theatre UNI productions of A Chorus Line, The Dick Gibson Show, In the Heart of America, and Our Town. He has also worked on UNISTA (UNI Student Theatre Assocation) productions of The Menaechmi (playing Menachmus II), 10 Minute Play Festival (playwright and actor), Lonely Planet (sound co-designer) and All in the Timing (performer). Sam has worked in the Strayer-Wood Theatre box office for the past three years and spent the summer of 2006 as a sound technician for the Texas Shakespeare Company. During the 2007/08 Theatre UNI season, Sam will play the role of Nick Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
   
Tom Hoy
A senior theatre performance major from Waterloo, Iowa, Tom Hoy is playing the roles of Harry Bagley and Cathy in the Fall 2007 production of Cloud 9. He previously has appeared in Theatre UNI productions of A Chorus Line, Antigone, Red Herring and Our Town, staged readings of The Exonerated, Handbag and The Misses Pirie and Woods and the UNISTA production of Lonely Planet. With an interest in lighting as well as performance, Tom has served as assistant to the lighting design on A Chorus Line, master electrician for The Wrestling Season, and electrics crew on several additional productions. During the summer of 2007, Tom apprenticed at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, where he appeared in a workshop production of Marisol by José Rivera.
   
Sara Kaus
A senior theatre performance major from Shell Rock, Iowa, and Rice Lake, Wisconsin, Sara Kaus has appeared in Theatre UNI productions of The Wrestling Season, The Dick Gibson Show and In the Heart of America. She has also worked as a master electrician, assistant lighting designer, props master, assistant stage manager, usher, assistant technical director, and painter on numerous Theatre UNI and UNISTA productions. A member of the UNI Stage Combat Club, Sara was the fight captain for the 2006 production of La Serva Padrona. She will serve as house manager for A Midsummer Night’s Dream this fall.
