The Zeitoun Project: Theatre in the Classroom
In early August, faculty member Richard Glockner will begin work to create a staged adaptation of the book Zeitoun by David Eggers. The book tells the the story of a Muslim-American family's (the husband is Syrian-American, and the wife is a American Muslim convert) experience after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. The husband stays behind in the city and is arrested on suspicion of terrorism. The book raises important questions about identity, religion, and justice, and it handles the issues about stereotypes of Muslims in a sensitive and thoughtful way.
The finished 25-minute performance will be presented to entering students who are enrolled in the new university Cornerstone course offering.
