Thursday, March 28, 2013
Over Spring Break, several students from our department attended the United States Institute of Theatre Technology conference in Milwaukee, and participated in the Tech Olympics event there, covering every event. Competitors included:
Sound: Kris Rutz and Shawn Poellet
Knot tying: Shawn Poellet
Wiring a stage pin connector: Kris Rutz
Props: Melia Beschta
Wardrobe: Jenna Graupmann
Stage Management: Matt Vichlach and Melia Beschta
Electrics: Mike Cahill and Jarad Dettman
Kris Rutz and Shawn Poellet placed 1st in Sound (winning with a time of 3:30 to troubleshoot a sound system) and Knots (winning with a time of 26 seconds to tie a clove hitch with two half hitches, a bowline, and a truckers hitch- which he learned on the day of the competition!) Shawn was also awarded 2nd place for top technician.
Michaela Nelson commented: "Everyone did very well. The thing I noticed most was how calm our team was in comparison to everyone else. We knew our stuff and just did it."
Congratulations to these UNI students for their excellent performance!
