Scholarship
Day
for
2010/11 Incoming Students
Monday, December 7, 2009
Each year, the UNI Department of Theatre awards over $45,000 in tuition scholarships to its majors, nearly
$15,000 to first year students. Awards
range between $750 and $2,500.
Incoming students compete for scholarships
at the Strayer-Wood Theatre's annual Scholarship Day. Typically held in early December, Scholarship
Day provides incoming students with an opportunity to meet and interview
with theatre faculty. In addition, students are encouraged to showcase
their talents for faculty through performance auditions and portfolio
presentations. Students interested in theatre education
may apply with an interview, letters of recommendation, and submissions
of written work.
To be eligible for scholarship consideration, a first year student should:
• Be admitted to UNI by April 1, 2010. (Contact the UNI Admissions Office for information and forms.)
• Intend to declare a theatre major or be undecided about choice of major.
• Hold a "B" average or be in the upper one-third of the class at the time of application. Transfer students with a 3.0 GPA and an established record of participation in theatre activities are also encouraged to apply.
To apply for a UNI Department of Theatre scholarship:
• Send an application, resume of production experience and theatre training and current photo (submit online by clicking on link below.)
• Have school send a transcript of courses and grades.
• Have two letters of recommendation sent by high school or community college teachers or directors stating why you are a good candidate for this scholarship.
• Be prepared to audition and interview at UNI on Monday, December 7, 2009.
Actors: Prepare two 2 minute contrasting monologues (one character speaking from a play, not a prose piece), which will demonstrate your outstanding qualities. The introduction should mention only the character and the play (for example: Emily from Our Town). Time limits will be enforced. You will also be interviewed by the faculty and staff after your audition.
Designers/Technicians: Students interested in design and production should plan to interview with UNI faculty and staff in those areas on the same day. If you have a portfolio or examples of your work, please bring them to the interview.
All others should plan to interview with theatre faculty and staff. All materials are due before November 20, 2009. |
