The goal of the departmental reading list is to expose you to a common base of scripts and theatre texts to help interpret our art form. You will find many of the plays and texts will be discussed in your classes. The majority, though, you will need to read on your own and develop strategies for retaining the important aspects of that reading. (See Preparing for the Departmental Reading Exam.) Through reading these works and developing common references, you will begin to be able to communicate from the informed position of familiarity with the many trends and styles that have shaped our dramatic literature.
The Level One Exam must be passed before a student can declare an Emphasis Area. Emphasis Area students must pass the Level Two Exam to meet emphasis graduation requirements.
All exams will be offered at least twice a semester. The schedule will depend on lab availability and will be posted on the Strayer-Wood Theatre website and sent out in memos to the department.
