What is a Scholarship?
Scholarships are “free” money that help pay for educational expenses. Scholarships funds do not need to be repaid. Scholarships may reduce the amount in student loans you may need to borrow. Scholarship funds may be used to pay for:
- Books, supplies, lab fees
- Room, board, meal plans
*Distinguished Scholar: Must be Iowa resident and High School graduate. Based on RAI & ACT score. Renewable for 2nd year with GPA of 3.0 minimum.
*Out-of-State Scholar: Illinois or Minnesota resident, U.S. Citizen and High School graduate. Based on RAI & ACT score. Renewable for up to 3 years with 2.5 minimum GPA.
*Out-of-State Legacy Scholar: Must be non-resident of Iowa with a parent, sibling, or grandparent who graduated from UNI or a sibling currently attending UNI. Renewable with 2.5 GPA or higher.
*Transfer Scholar Award: Students transferring in at least 30 semester hours with a minimum GPA of 3.25.
Department of Technology Scholarships
*Clarence and Carol Letson Scholarship: Incoming freshmen demonstrating financial
need, must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, renewable.
*STM Scholarships-Industrial Technology: Incoming Freshmen from Iowa, must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, have a minimum high school 3.0 GPA & ACT score
24+, one page essay and interview required.
General Industrial Technology:
*Dr. Guang Jin & Dr. Zifan Ju Scholarship: Minimum Sophomore status with minimum 2.75 GPA. Renewable
*James P. La Rue Scholarship: Declared major, minimum 3.2 GPA, earned a min. 30 semester hours (15 at UNI).
*Willis and Hazel Wagner Scholarship: Declared major, minimum 2.75 GPA with minimum 3.0+ Major GPA, complete a 2 page essay. 12+ credits completed.
*SME Waterloo Chapter C-186 Scholarship: SME student chapter member, Jr. status, Department of Tech student for at least 2 semesters, minimum 3.0 GPA.
*Foundry Education Foundation Scholarship: Majoring in Metal Casting, meet FEF criteria.
*H.H Harris Foundation Scholarship: Metal casting major, US Citizen, display financial need.
*John Deere Achievement/Diversity Undergraduate Scholarships: 3 Scholarships awarded to a Manufacturing, EET, and Diversity Manufacturing or EET student. Sophomore or Jr. status with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Have 2-4 semesters remaining until graduation, plans to work in Iowa.
Technology Education and Training:
*Duncan Lampman Scholarship: Minimum Sophomore status, minimum 3.0 GPA with minimum 3.5 GPA in Major.
*Roger and Kathy Betts Scholarship: Completed 45 SH (12 at UNI), minimum 2.5 GPA with minimum 2.75 GPA in Major, displays financial need, recommendation letter, 2 page essay.

*Associated General Contractors of Iowa: Construction Mgmt student, plan to work in Iowa
*Matthew McCoy Memorial: Construction Mgmt student, minimum Jr. status,
2.5 minimum GPA, 1 page essay
*Master Builders of Iowa: Construction Mgmt student, minimum Jr. status, 2.5+ GPA.
*Peters Construction Corporation: Construction Mgmt student, minimum Jr. status, minimum 2.5 GPA.
*Waterloo Building Trades and Employers Association: Construction Mgmt student, minimum Jr. status, minimum 2.5 GPA.
*Harold Messingham Memorial: Construction Mgmt student, minimum Jr. status, minimum 2.5 GPA.
*Interstates Electric and Engineering: Construction Mgmt student, minimum Jr. status, minimum 3.0 GPA.
*Robert Lindgren Memorial: Construction Mgmt student, minimum Jr. status, minimum 2.5 GPA.
*Martin Marietta Scholarship: Construction Mgmt major, minimum 3.0 GPA, display financial need, Iowa resident.
*Conlon Construction Scholarship: Construction Mgmt Club member, full-time Jr. status, minimum 3.0 Major GPA, from Dubuque/Tri-state area, 1 page essay.
*Contractors Association (NECA): Construction Mgmt major, Sophomore or Jr. status, minimum 2.5 GPA with interest in electrical construction & plans to work in Iowa
*Pioneer Graphics Scholarship: Graphic Tech major, interview.
