Electrical Engineering Technology
The Electrical Engineering Technology program (EET) offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) that prepares students for application oriented engineering technology careers in circuits, conventional and renewable electrical power, analog/digital electronics, microcomputers, control systems, instrumentation, telecommunications and wired/wireless networking. The EET curriculum is a broad-based, technically-oriented education that emphasizes the application of today's technology to solve problems, design and develop products, and improve processes, procedures, equipment, and facilities. The BS degree program in EET offers a wide choice of courses in a variety of technical areas including:
- Conventional and Renewable Electrical Energy
- Industrial Controls and PLCs
- Electrical Machinery and Power Systems
- Embedded Microcomputers
- Instrumentation and Data Acquisition
- Wireless/RF Telecommunications
- Audio/Analog Electronics
- Computer/Digital Electronics
- Computer Hardware and Networking
Coursework is applications-oriented, and hands-on experience is gained through laboratory experiences that are carefully integrated into the courses. In addition, EET students benefit from the strong emphasis placed on internship, Co-op opportunities, senior design projects in local and regional industries, and the development of written and oral communication skills. UNI EET graduates are firmly rooted in modern technology and are able to offer their employers immediate contribution as team players who have problem solving, troubleshooting, production, implementation, and technical project management experience.
DEFINITIONS OF ENGINEERING/ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY/INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY
According to the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET):
ENGINEERING is the profession in which a knowledge of the mathematical and natural sciences gained by study, experience, and practice is applied with judgment to develop ways to utilize economically the materials and forces of nature for the benefit of mankind.
ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY is the part of the technological field that requires the application of scientific and engineering knowledge and methods combined with technical skills in support of engineering activities; it lies in the occupational spectrum between the craftsman and the engineer at the end of the spectrum closest to the engineer.
Although housed under the Technology Department, UNI EET program is NOT an industrial technology major, instead it is an engineering technology major. Industrial Technology is a profession, which requires such education and experience as is necessary to understand and apply technological and managerial sciences to industry. A typical technology major does not require Math/Science core of 8 credits in Calculus, 3 credits in Statistics and 8 credits in College Physics as seen at UNI EET curriculum.
