This rubric may be used for self-assessment. Your grade will be based upon the following criteria:

Exemplary

Discussion Contributions

  • Active, timely participation in class discussions that incorporated a clear understanding of course readings.
  • Postings were completed before the deadline.
  • Contributions addressed all questions asked.
  • Responses were concise yet thorough.
  • Responses to classmates' postings enhanced the class discussion with additional insights, questions, observations, or suggestions.
  • When appropriate, responded constructively to others' ideas.
  • Video analyses postings addressed salient points of the topic in relation to the video.
  • Response to classmates' analysis further expanded the topic of analysis.

Collaborative Activity

  • Fully participated in collaborative activity.
  • Contributed ideas and responded to the ideas of teammates.
  • Submitted assignment before the deadline.
  • Responded to teammates in a timely manner.

Lesson Plan

  • Completed a thorough critique of a classmate's Lesson Plan, demonstrating a clear understanding of the elements of a good Lesson Plan.
  • Identified major strengths and weaknesses in a constructive, helpful manner.
  • Spelling, grammar, and presentation are error free.
  • Submitted the assignment before the deadline.

Reflection

  • All questions answered with insightful explorations of the topics.
  • Writing was concise yet revealing extensive thought about the topic.
  • Deep understanding of the topic was evident.
  • Additional questions, problems, or ideas were raised.

Proficient

Discussion Contributions

  • Postings were completed before the deadline and answered nearly all questions.
  • Responses were nearly concise and/or complete.
  • Responses to classmates' postings did not enhance the class discussion, but did address the issues in the posting.
  • Video analyses postings addressed the basic points of the topic in relation to the video.
  • Response to classmates' analysis did not further expand the topic of analysis.

Collaborative Activity

  • Participated in collaborative activity.
  • Contributed some ideas and responded to the ideas of teammates.
  • Responded to teammates in a timely manner.
  • Submitted assignment by the deadline.

Lesson Plan

  • Completed a thorough critique of a classmate's Lesson Plan, demonstrating a clear understanding of the elements of a good Lesson Plan.

  • Writing indicates more stream of consciousness than carefully thought out ideas.

Partially Proficient

Discussion Contributions

  • Some postings not completed by deadline.
  • Postings were too trivial to fully meet the requirement.
  • For example, most of the postings were "I think so too" or "I disagree", but lacked any argument that added to the discussion; there was excessive quoting from the material without any real supporting evidence of how the topic might integrate with their classroom teaching.

Collaborative Activity

  • Participated in collaborative activity.
  • Contributed minimal ideas and/or responded superficially to the ideas of teammates.
  • Responded to teammates in a timely manner.
  • Submitted assignment by the deadline.

Lesson Plan

  • Completed a critique of a classmate's Lesson Plan, demonstrating a general understanding of the elements of a good Lesson Plan.
  • Identified most strengths and weaknesses in a constructive, helpful manner.
  • Spelling, grammar, and presentation are error free.
  • Submitted the assignment before the deadline.

Reflection

  • Some questions were answered thoroughly.
  • Haphazard approach to answering questions--some gave evidence of thought and care, while others were answered superficially.

Incomplete

Discussion Contributions

  • Most postings not completed by deadline.
  • Contributions were merely perfunctory.
  • For example, most of the postings were "I think so too" or "I disagree", but lacked any argument that added to the discussion, or there was excessive quoting from the material without any real supporting evidence of how the topic might integrate with their classroom teaching.

Collaborative Activity

  • Did not participate in collaborative activity, or
  • Contributed ideas without substance and did not respond to the ideas of teammates.
  • Did not respond to teammates in a timely manner.
  • Submitted assignment after the deadline.

Lesson Plan

  • Completed a critique of a classmate's Lesson Plan, but did not demonstrate adequate understanding of the elements of a good Lesson Plan.
  • Identified strengths and weaknesses but either was not constructive or missed obvious points.
  • The critique contained spelling, grammar, or presentation errors.
  • Submitted the assignment after the deadline.

Reflection

  • Some questions answered.
  • Did not demonstrate full understanding of the topic.

Evaluation Scale

A - Exemplary

B - Proficient

Partially Proficient and Incomplete need to be resubmitted to meet at least the Proficient level. The highest grade possible for re-submissions will be B.
