Activity 3, Practice Viewing an InTime Video
Check that you are able to access one of the InTime videos you'll be viewing in class. View the Activity Overview for the WebQuest Solar System Colonization Project 2000 video. On the left side of the screen, you should see the streaming video with rolling text underneath (just like closed captioning on your TV). On the right side, you should see the textual information that describes the lesson. Additionally, you should be able to hear the audio.

Note that it may take 30 seconds or more for the video to download, depending on your Internet connection and traffic on the server. While it's downloading, you may see green letters at the bottom of the video frame that say "Buffering" or "Loading" and some numbers indicating the size of the download. Look at the green bar just to the right of "Buffering"; when it is fully green, the video will start.

If you have any problems accessing the video, please review the technical requirements for the workshop, especially relating to the use of RealPlayer software.

Activity 4, Virus Protection

Be sure that you have antivirus software loaded and enabled on each of the computers you will use during this workshop.

  • Update your antivirus software on a schedule (minimum weekly) so new viruses are detected.
  • Run your virus software to scan all files, regardless of type.
  • Never open an email attachment from anyone without
    virus-checking it first.
  • Turn on macro virus protection in Microsoft Word and beware of viruses in Word documents.
  • Update your Windows operating system with free security fixes from Microsoft.

If you need information on purchasing antivirus software, here are two suggestions:
