Module
1
Office Software, Readings
Let us begin our readings on incorporating technology into
the curriculum by examining the InTime principle of Technology:
| Technology provides the means for
the teacher to reexamine the nature of the classroom
environment. The teacher is no longer the fount of all
knowledge. Technology can provide access to sources
beyond the classroom and the textbooks. The teacher
can become the facilitator of learning, incorporating
a host of strategies to guide learners. Technology opens
the door to the world, allowing learners to access libraries,
other learners and experts, and a vast array of resources
to obtain the knowledge they seek. |
Review the definition, checklist, and example for each of
the following:
Then, examine an in-depth look at each of these categories
in Technology
Resources and Tools for Information Literacy, Section
IIc, Software Applications.
Lesson
Plan Databases
The following are databases of lesson plans.
You will need to access these to complete one of the activities
for this module.
Optional
Readings
These readings are "optional" based on your skill
level with the various technologies and your exposure to them
in a classroom setting. If you're not terribly familiar with
these technologies, read as much as your time permits. If
you're very familiar, skim through these readings--there are
some great ideas even for those who are very experienced in
using technology in the classroom.
While the following links all focus on Microsoft, many of
the ideas you find here can be applied to word processors,
databases, and spreadsheets generically.

Teaching

This is a sales pitch from Microsoft, but at $6.97, it is
probably worthwhile: The Teaching and Learning with Microsoft

technology in your curriculum and create engaging opportunities
for your students. This two-CD set, created for K-12 educators,
helps you take advantage of Office products by expanding what
you already know.
