Module 1
Office Software, Activities
Each activity is based on your readings and evaluations of the videos. Within each activity below, you will find links to the materials on the Readings and Videos pages that will help you complete each Activity.

Activity 1, Module Introduction
Review the module introduction, objectives, and evaluation rubric.

Activity 2, Discussion: Your Classroom
After examining the readings for this module, explain how you have used office software in your classroom and describe which competencies' levels you required of your students. Post your response in a message posted to the Discussion list titled TT: Module 1, Activity 2. *Note--if you have not used technology in your classroom, describe a lesson you are familiar with, perhaps the lesson of one of your colleagues.

Activity 3, Discussion: Recommend a Lesson
On the readings page, review the available lesson plan databases.

  • Find a lesson that matches your grade level and/or content area that incorporates an innovative use of either a spreadsheet, a database, or a word processing program.
  • Recommend that lesson to the class, including your rationale for the recommendation.

Post your recommendation to the Discussion list titled TT: Module 1, Activity 3.

  • Respond to the postings of two other classmates with your assessment of their recommendations and rationale.

Post your responses to the Discussion list using TT: Module 1, Activity 3a as your subject line.

Activity 4, Discussion: Video Analysis
View the three required videos. Select one video which you feel best exemplified creative and educational uses of technology. In a message posted to the Discussion list titled TT: Module 1, Activity 4, explain how the teacher incorporated technology to enhance the lesson he/she presented in a creative and educational manner.

Respond to the postings of two other classmates. If possible, respond to one with whom you hold similar beliefs and one with whom you disagree.

Post your responses to the Discussion list using TT: Module 1, Activity 4a as your subject line.

Activity 5, Lesson Plan: Identify a Lesson
As you saw in the videos we viewed in this module, it is critically important that technology adds value to the lesson. It cannot be included for the sake of inclusion; it must somehow bring an additional element to the lesson.

During this course, you will be developing a Lesson Plan that incorporates technology so that it adds value to that lesson.

  • For this module, you need to identify a lesson that would last at least three class sessions in length. In the subsequent modules, you will be creating a Lesson Plan, step by step.
  • Share the Lesson Plan title and a one to two paragraph description of the lesson with a classmate assigned to you by the Instructor. Complete a PQP Peer Review for one another.
  • Send an email to your Instructor giving the title and a one to two paragraph description of your lesson. Title the email TT: Module 1, Activity 5. Your Instructor may make suggestions for improvement.

At this time, please:

1. Download the Lesson Plan Template.

2. Save the template as yourlastname_lessonplan.rtf

Please note: this is an .rtf, or Rich Text Format file. Please keep it as an .rtf document. In Module 6, we will be sharing all our Lesson Plans. Using .rtf files allows any word processing program to open and view all Lesson Plans.

3. As each module is completed and you have received graded, approved Lesson Plan activities back from your Instructor, you should update the template.

4. In Module 6, all Lesson Plans will be uploaded to the Class Roster page for sharing purposes.

When you have completed all of the activities in this module,
proceed to Module 2, Email.
