Module 2
ADDIE, Introduction

Objectives

In this module, you will:

  • reflect upon benefits and drawbacks of instruction prepared using ADDIE
  • analyze the Instructional Design of an InTime video vignette
  • identify and share a Unit of Instruction to be developed throughout this course using Instructional Design

The Dick and Carey Model is probably the most common of all the Instructional Design models. This flow chart will help you to visualize the steps involved in the Instructional Design Model.

(Flow chart from the University of Michigan Dick and Carey site)

As you learned in Module 1, there are over 40 different models of Instructional Design. What are the elements common to most?

The most basic elements found in all Instructional Design models can be thought of using the acronym ADDIE. What does ADDIE stand for?

Analysis
Design
Develop
Implement
Evaluate

In this module, you will visit the readings for each element of ADDIE. In the subsequent modules, you will investigate each step more thoroughly and apply it to your Unit of Instruction. Although there are five major areas in ADDIE, we will only be covering Analysis, Design, and Develop in the Unit we will be creating throughout this course.
