Transfer and Graduate Students

 2+2 B.A. Degree Education Programs are offered in partnership with selected Iowa community colleges and the University of Northern Iowa.

Students must meet the same requirements for admission and retention in the Teacher Education Program as on-campus students.

Transfer students from a community college or another four-year college or university:

  • Entry to the University will be through your application to UNI. (Meet with UNI Admission Representatives)
  • Access your degree audit through MyUNIverse which shows how your courses fulfill UNI’s Liberal Arts Core and major requirements.
  • Attend transfer orientation session, at which time you will be assisted in completing the Declaration of Curriculum form and registering for classes.
  • Admission to and retention in Teacher Education Program is the same as for all students seeking teacher licensure. See To Do List for requirements
    • Application for Admission to Teacher Education form successfully completed prior to or during your first semester at UNI. (submit to SEC 159A)
    • Pass the Praxis Core
    • Register for Level II courses or higher if your transfer cum GPA is a minimum of 2.50. If your transfer cum GPA is below 2.50, contact your advisor to determine a new plan of study until your cum GPA reaches 2.50. Note: your UNI cumulative GPA includes hours from all other institutions that transfer into UNI.
  • Your final transcript should be on file at the UNI Admissions Office one week prior to the spring or summer semester.

Post-Baccalaureate Students seeking teacher licensure or additional areas of endorsement, enroll either as a graduate student or an undergraduate post-baccalaureate student.

Undergraduate post-BA students who have never attended the University of Northern Iowa:

  • Make application to UNI and be admitted through the Office of Admissions.
  • Record Analyst in the Office of the Registrar must complete a transcript evaluation to determine a licensure program that will lead to recommendation for the license and/or endorsement desired.

Undergraduate post-BA students who are former UNI students and students wanting to enroll as a graduate classified student:

  • Apply through the Office of the Registrar.
  • Record Analyst in the Office of the Registrar must complete a transcript evaluation to determine a licensure program that will lead to recommendation for the license and/or endorsement desired.

All post-BA students:

  • Complete the Application for Admission to Teacher Education prior to or during your first semester at UNI.
  • If your cumulative GPA at graduation was below 2.50, you must earn a 2.50 cumulative GPA in at least eight semester hours of coursework at UNI before you will be permitted to enter the Teacher Education Program and enroll in Level II courses.
  • Courses which satisfy the major/minor and the professional education sequence taken at other institutions are used to compute eligibility for admission to the Teacher Education Program and for student teaching.
  • It is expected that all students seeking to complete an initial teaching licensure program through UNI must fulfill all requirements to be admitted to the UNI Teacher Education Program (See To Do List for the recommended sequence of requirements.)

M.A. Students Seeking Teaching License while completing an MA should contact the department that offers the major that normally leads to licensure in the areas selected.

All post-baccalaureate students pursuing teaching licensure must arrange a conference with their advisor prior to their first semester of course work to determine teacher education admission requirements.
