Professional Disposition
A Professional Disposition Situation is when a professor, advisor, administrator, or support staff member recognizes that you are not exhibiting professional behaviors, or have not yet attained needed skills, content knowledge, and/or professional attitude or demeanor. If this happens,
- a Notification of Concern form is filed;
- you receive an email alerting you to that fact; and
- a “flag” appears on your UNITED records screen to show all those vested in your success that you are demonstrating a problem that could keep you from progressing in the program.
- You must take the initiative to correct the problem.
- When you correct the problem (with assistance as needed), the “flag” is removed.
- If you do not take care of the problem OR if you acquire 3 “flags,” then the problem becomes serious enough for involvement by the Office of Teacher Education.
- The Office of Teacher Education will seek the advice of a faculty and administrative committee (Teacher Candidate Professional Review Committee) to make a decision about your ability to remain in the teaching program and will recommend action.
- The Director of Teacher Education enacts suspension from the Teacher Education Program upon recommendation of the Teacher Candidate Professional Review Committee.
- Our intent is to assist you in developing the positive attributes of a professional teacher or to assist you in seeking an alternative career goal.
- Suspended students have the right to appeal the process by which the Teacher Candidate Professional Review Committee determined suspension.
