Graduation Requirements and Procedures
Fingerprint/Background Check Requirement
One semester before student teaching:
- Check Calendars for dates/locations.
- On fingerprinting day, bring a money order or cashier's check made out to the Board of Educational Examiners for:
- $137.00 (fingerprinting = $52.00 + initial teacher license = $85)
- Sign a waiver form regarding your past records with police.
Guidelines for reporting:- Have you EVER received a speeding ticket? Do NOT report
- Have you EVER received a parking ticket? Do NOT report
- Have you EVER received a seat belt ticket? DO report
- Have you EVER received a ticket for running a stop light? DO report
- Have you EVER received a ticket involving possession? DO report
- Have you EVER received a ticket for OWI? DO report
- Have you EVER received a deferred sentence? DO report
- Have you EVER received a ticket regarding an unruly house? DO report
- Have you EVER shoplifted? DO report
- Have you EVER had any other violation? DO report
- In other words: report EVERYTHING but speeding or parking tickets!
- You most likely will not be denied a license because of your past violations.
- If you fail to report violations, you could jeopardize your chances for a license.
- The issue is about honesty more than past bad luck.
- Be sure to stay violation-free in college!

Application for Graduation:
- Apply for graduation when you register for your last semester of course work. (Application forms are available in the Office of the Registrar and also on the web at http://www.uni.edu/regist/).
Graduation requirements with a recommendation for licensure are listed below:
- Full compliance with entrance requirements for admission to teacher education
- Cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher
- UNI GPA of 2.50 or higher
- GPA of 2.50 or higher in the courses required in the major and fulfillment of any departmental writing requirements
- Satisfactory completion of student teaching at the endorsement level of licensure
- Eligibility for graduation from the University

Graduating into the University:
- Your graduation from UNI as a licensed teacher = graduating into the University.
- Keep email addresses of professors, and contact them for support during your professional years.
- Graduate courses for maintaining your license: contact the UNI Division of Continuing Education and Special Programs.
- Advanced degrees: contact the UNI Graduate College.
- UNI sponsors a great number of conferences and institutes each year which can provide professional development opportunities.
- UNI Alumni Association
