In addition to successful completion of the professional education courses required by the Board of Educational Examiners for licensure, and passing the Praxis II, the University of Northern Iowa has additional requirements:

• GPA: 2.50 or above
• Successful completion of student teaching
• Acceptable performance on a Teacher Work Sample
• Completion of a professional portfolio (determined by major)
• Acceptable professional dispositions (absence of Notifications of Concern)

You must apply for a teaching license.
During your last semester:

• Access the application at http://state.ia.us/boee/getapp.html
• For your initial license, click on “licensure (Iowa institution).”
• Download and complete the form.
• Send the completed form to the UNI Registrar’s Office (GIL 227).
• DO NOT SEND MONEY, even though the form tells you to. You already submitted your money order at the time you completed your Fingerprint and Background Check. UNI sends your money to the BOEE for you.

When you complete the approved teacher education program at the University of Northern Iowa, we will recommend you for the license and endorsement(s) for which you are eligible. When the BOEE receives our recommendation, you will be given a folder number which opens the door for you to be hired as a professional teacher.
