Becoming part of a community
means making connections with others in meaningful ways. The classroom can
become a learning community if teachers and students are able to connect with
one another and the subject matter while valuing the diversity of each. Some
of the web resources and associated questions for creating classroom community
are listed here:
Teaching
with Student Diversity in Mind: What can I do to support the achievement of all students in my class,
which includes a wide range of backgrounds and abilities?
Eliminating
the Elevator Effect: How can I move my class from blank stares
and conscious avoidance to "a room full of interacting, interesting,
curious, creative human beings"?
