Textile and Apparel Association
Constitution Preamble
The purpose of this organization is to develop continuing professional interests and activities in the field of textiles and apparel through field trips, lectures, films, and workshops. The following articles provide the
qualifications for membership, provisions for the election of officers and co-directors, the organizational structure, meeting protocol, and methods
for amending this constitution. Article I. Name Section I: The name of
this organization shall be the Textile and Apparel Association (TAA). Article II. Purpose, Powers, and Scope of the Organization Section I: The purpose of this organization is to develop continuing of professional interests and activities in the field of textiles and apparel. Section II: The organization hosts an annual student design exposition, which serves to develop leadership and team skills as well as creative skills in the professional arena. Section
III: Other
activities are to include field trips to visit businesses in the textile and
apparel industry, career fairs, lectures, films, and workshops. Article III. Qualification of Membership Section
I: Regular
members shall be any student within any major at the University of Northern Iowa
who exhibits interest in the area of textile and apparel Section II:
Honorary members shall be faculty members and other persons who have
attained distinction in the area of textile and apparel or who have promoted the
welfare of this movement by their interest or effort.
Section
III:
Only regular dues-paying members may hold office, be chairpersons of
standing committees, and vote upon matters that concern the organization.
Honorary members shall enjoy all other privileges of membership. Section IV:
Dues are to be set by the executive board per semester and per year to be
paid upon request. Payment of dues and participation in fundraising events must
be completed to be considered members and to be allowed to participate in and
receive partial funding for special events. Section V:
Assessment may be made of members with their sanction in those cases
deemed necessary. Article IV: Officers of the Organization Section I:
The elected officers shall be: President, Vice President, Secretary,
Treasurer, and three council members. Article V: Directorship Section I: Co-directors
of the annual student design exposition shall be elected at the time officers
are elected. The president is allowed to run for directorship. The theme of the
show is not to be connected with electing directorship. Article VI: Meetings Section I: Meetings shall be held at 3:00pm the first and third Monday of each month
when permitted by the University calendar. Section II: Special meetings may be called by the executive board or advisers. Article VII: Amendments
