Course registration time is rapidly upon us.
The Faculty have some recommendations and advice
for all of you who will be signing up for Spring 2010 courses.
|
 |
Two types of courses are available to
you. First there are the larger open enrollment classes, such as Costume
History or Fashion Promotion, which you can get into through the computer,
first come, first serve. The other courses have limited seats and we manage
entry to those courses through the Department Office. The course requirements for individual TAPP majors have been examined by the faculty and you will receive an email informing you
as to which courses and sections have been reserved for you for classes that
have limited seats and enrollment caps. We urge you to
sign up for those classes for which you have been cleared as it will move you
progressively towards graduation. Your placements in capped classes are determined
by your class ranking (credit hours earned) and by your major's
requirements.
|
 | We have lifted the registration holds on all TAPP majors, which
means that you can register without receiving advisor permission.
|
 | Simply because we do not require advisor permission to register does not
mean that Dr. Lynch or myself will not be happy to spend some time advising
you, if you think you need help. If so, please make an appointment to see us.
It is immensely helpful if you arrive at the meeting with us having given
serious thought to your program of study!
|
 | It is not too difficult to advise yourself or prepare adequately for a
meeting with us. The first, best place to begin is to review your degree
audit, which can be found at "myUNIverse." It will list all the classes you
must take to complete your degree and show you the ones that you have
already taken.
|
 | Further information about our curriculum can be found at
http://www.uni.edu/tapp/curricul.htm There you
can find a four year program of study and the major's requirements.
|
 | Here's some ball park advice to pay close attention to:
 | for new entering majors, it is strongly
recommended that you take 31T:020 Introduction to the Textile and
Apparel Industry. Please use the normal computer registration process.
|
 | other courses that early majors can/should take
and can be entered through normal computer registration are 31T:116
History of Costume and 31T:121 Fashion Promotion.
|
 | if you have not taken 31T:013 Introduction to Textile Materials, try to get
into it because it is a major prerequisite for
more advanced courses. You will be informed via email
if an open a slot is available for you
so that you can register by computer. |
 | if you have taken 31T:013 Introduction to Textile Materials or
plan on taking it this spring try to get into 31T:014
Apparel Evaluation if a slot has been reserved for you because it is a major prerequisite for
the advanced
design course. |
 | the advanced Computer Applications class 31T:100
is one you should take if a slot is available for you and you have
fulfilled the prerequisite 31T:011 Computer Design Foundations.
|
 | more advanced students, junior and above should make sure they
register for 31T:123 Textile Structures,
31T:115g Apparel Product
Development, Merchandising and Buying,
Slots are available through the normal computer registration process.
|
 | finally, if you are planning to graduate in May
or December 2010 you must register for 31T:185 Professional Development

taken the class).
