A Tribute To Marc Breaux

A Tribute to Marc Breaux was presented at the Burke Theatre on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette on April 6, 7, 8, 9, 2000.  Marc Breaux, a native of Carencro, Louisiana and raised in Lafayette is an alumni of the university.   The Department of Performing Arts honored him for his stellar accomplishments as a dancer, choreographer, director and actor.  Mr. Breaux is best known for his choreographic contributions in such films as Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Happiest Millionaire, The Slipper and the Rose and others.  His Broadway choreographic credits include DO RE MI (with Phil Silvers), the revival of A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum (with Phil Silvers), Minnie's Boys, Subways Are For Sleeping, Snoopy and others.  He acted in the original Broadway productions of Kiss Me Kate, L'il Abner, That's The Ticket, The Barrier, Catch A Star and Destry Rides Again.  He became an active member of the Hollywood scene directing television specials for such legends as Bing Crosby, Dick Van Dyke, Carol Burnett, Dinah Shore and Fred Astaire in addition to directing The King Family television series and The Hollywood Palace.  Mr. Breaux and choreographic partner, Dee Dee Wood also teamed to choreograph for Andy Williams, Judy Garland, Jack Benny and many more legends within the entertainment community.

A Tribute To Marc Breaux was an evening of music and dance and featured ballet, modern dance, and musical numbers from his Broadway shows in addition to musical numbers and dances from his films as interpreted by choreographer's Kenneth Jenkins, Sarah Stravinksa and Cissy Whipp and director, Steve Taft.  The photographs below are examples from A Tribute to Marc Breaux featuring the work of Steve Taft as lighting designer for this particular project.
