These blocks are made out of D2 Tool Steel, and measure 1" x 2" x 3" with a tolerance of ±.0005" of actual size. Also theses blocks have five threaded holes that were tapped in the HAAS VF-0 CNC Mill. Along with the tapping, the basic shape, size, and holes were milled using CNC technology. Chamfers were manually milled and to acquire the required tolerance these blocks were hand ground.

The bearing driver was a first for a lot of things. This includes heat treating, turning between centers, measuring of a round surface, and OD grinding. I started this project in the first year of tool & die and finished during the following summer with the OD grinding. The bearing driver is ground to within ±.0005" flatness and ±.001 size tolerance.

The drill jig was a collection of projects done over the course of three semesters. This project utilized the lath, mill, rotary table, CNC mill, CNC lath, surface grinder, OD grinder, and a series of broaches. The drill jig is capable of drilling a hole within ±.005" of centerline.

These parallels are ½" by 1½". They are also ground square within ±.0002" and flat within ±.0005".

The punches were the first tool steel project given to us. Using the manual lath and HSS tools, I made a ½" and a ¾" punch. The tool steel used was H-13.

The v-blocks was the most precisely ground project I completed with the flatness, squareness, and the v's relation to the center of the part all being a tolerance under ±.0003". The blocks were made from 1024 Hot rolled steel and heat treated to resist wear. Along with the v-blocks, we made two clamps to hold round stock in the v-block. These clamps were designed in ESPRIE 2007 and cut on a Charmilles Robofil 290 5-axis wire EDM.
