Introduction

Universidade do Vale do Itajai (UNIVALI) sits on the coast of southern Brazil. It is one of the largest universities in Brazil, with over 25,000 students, and over 50 academic programs, from fashion design to biology. It is the second largest port in Brazil in terms of container transport, and has over 170,000 habitants. Itajaí has many beautiful beaches, among them are the Molhes, Atalaia, Jeremias, Cabeçudas, Morcego, Praia Brava and Solidão. The city also has ample rural areas and a beautiful natural landscape, with a rich heritage of Portuguese and German immigrants. Learn Portuguese in a fun and beautiful environment!

Academic Program

No proficiency certificate is required. However, students must have a good knowledge in the Portuguese language to follow regular classes. The university has no programs/courses taught in English, but some professors offer part of their classes in English. The Language Center of UNIVALI (NELLE) offers Portuguese classes for exchange students. All majors at UNIVALI are available to exchange students.

Accommodation & Meals

UNIVALI does not provide on-campus living, but there are many options available in either Itajai or Balneario Camboriu. The International Students Program at UNIVALI is a resource for finding accommodation in either city.

Program Cost

Students will pay UNI tuition. Accommodation averages between US$300-$500/month, meals approximately US$200/month, and public transportation (approx. US$50 for the semester). Airfare is approximately US$1,000.
