Introduction

Brochure 2012

Originally founded as a medical college, Soonchunhyang University is gaining a national reputation as an excellent institution of higher education. Located in the dynamically expending city of Asan, which is less than 60 miles south of the capital -- Seoul. Soonchunhyang University is readily accessible from the metropolitan Seoul area via public transportation. Now, with hundreds of international students of various nationalities, the university is getting more diverse in the student body.

The exchange program is one that offers great financial benefits (see Cost, below) and a PAID cultural internship.

Program City

Asan is located in the north western region of Chungnam, less than 60 miles south of Korea’s capital Seoul and a 40 minute ride on Korea’s newest high speed railroad, the KTX. It is dynamically expanding with its population being expected to reach over 500,000 in a few years and is home for the world class semi conductor and automobile manufacturers, Samsung and Hyundai. Asan is also famous for its natural hot springs, rich in minerals and healing properties. Many visitors from around the world look forward to relaxing in these hot springs, especially in Asan’s Dogo hot springs complex, where they can not only benefit from one of Asia’s top sulfur hot springs, but also enjoy swimming, horse riding, and a round of golf.

Eating out in Asan is also quite a pleasant experience. One can taste exquisite Korean cuisine in many restaurants in Asan. Even for those who are price-conscious, dining out need not be a pain in the wallet since one can have a barbeque style meal for only less than eight dollars in most of these restaurants.

Institution

Originally founded as a medical college in 1978, Soonchunhyang University is now recognized as an excellent educational renovation institution of higher education. INTERNSHIP:

In an effort to create a true globalized university, SCH is currently participating in programs that allow faculty and students to study abroad within exchange programs with related institutions. We have created what is called the "English Village" within the Soonchunhyang University and housed on campus. The citizens are chosen from students who are particularly interested in English as a foreign language along with students from abroad who are native English speakers. Intern for 15 hours a week as a "Cultural and Language Ambassador" through group meetings, a language and cultural exchange program, and by living side by side with Korean students in specially designated dorms.

Accommodation & Meals

Housing is on campus and is provided FREE OF CHARGE. One of Soonchunhyang University’s newest buildings, the Global Village founded in 2005, houses around 500 students with over 45 separate sections with each capable of providing accommodation for up to ten students. It is a spacious area, consisting of 4 buildings designed with students’ needs in mind. With free internet access, public telephones, study rooms, and a fully equipped media room, students need not be concerned with staying in touch with family and loved ones. Each section has a comfortable communal area fitted with a sofa suite, TV, and is fully air-conditioned. It is surrounded by five rooms and two large bathrooms. Also, students can feel confident that their belongings are safe and secure as all rooms are fitted with sturdy locks as well as security lock on each dormitory.

The Global Village has 24 hour in-house security, employed by Soonchunhyang University to ensure students peace of mind and well being. It also offers in-house laundry and an employed seamstress to adjust and mend students' garments when needed. The Global Village serves as a home away from home for many students, and SCH hopes that the memories gained here will have a lasting impression on its occupants for years to come.
