Thinking About SFU?

Ranked by respected national surveys as one of Canada’s top three comprehensive universities for almost 20 years, Simon Fraser University is named after a famous explorer and known for its pioneering spirit.

From the moment we connect with prospective students, until they cross Convocation Mall to collect their degrees, we help them chart their own unique course through numerous interdisciplinary academic programs.

Spanning many disciplines in eight faculties, SFU offers more than 100 undergraduate major and joint major programs and more than 45 graduate offerings. Mentored by faculty acclaimed for their research and teaching abilities and coached by dedicated advisors and employers in our work integrated learning program, our more than 100,000 graduates enjoy limitless career opportunities.

Program City

The University is located on Burnaby Mountain just ten miles east of the city center of Vancouver, British Columbia. Burnaby Mountain Park surrounds the campus, giving students access to biking, hiking, and running trails in the temperate rain forest. Urban enthusiasts are only a short bust ride to downtown Vancouver, Chinatown, shopping malls, and sports stadiums. Efficient transportation from SFU makes it easy to access many of these popular destinations and more including Seattle, Washington, only a 2.5 drive south of Vancouver.

Institution

Established in 1965, SFU has gained an international reputation for its strengths in the liberal arts and sciences. It has been ranked as the number one comprehensive university in Canada by MacLean?s magazine (Canada's equivalent to Time). The University has three campuses: the main campus, Burnaby, Vancouver campus, downtown, and Surrey campus. SFU offers over 100 programs in six faculties at the graduate and undergraduate level to approximately 25,000 students. SFU Clan Athletics offers opportunities for student-athletes to compete in both Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) and the USA-based National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Recreational services include intramural programs, fitness classes/workshops, aquatic programs, non-credit instructional activity classes and clubs, which offer a wide diversity of opportunities to recreate and to be active your way everyday.
