Work For Us
Positions are available in the Study Abroad Center for students who have a
strong desire to help other students learn more about study abroad and to assist
them prepare for the experience. We provide students with invaluable work
experience and, upon successful completion, a letter of reference/recommendation
to future employers.
These positions are are available to both undergraduate and graduate students.
All applicants must be a full-time student at UNI in good academic standing.
Students are required to work no more than 10 hours a week and are
often asked to perform various duties outside normal business hours to promote
the program on campus. Supervision and training is provided.
Necessary qualifications and skills: Excellent communications
skills, friendly and outgoing personality, with good public speaking ability.
Experience with Microsoft Office is required, additional software skills such as
PageMaker, PhotoShop, Front Page are desirable. Good organizational skills and
attention to detail. The successful applicant will be a self-starter with the
ability to work independently without close supervision. Previous study abroad
experience is required for peer advisors. Peer Advisors Provide information and advice
to UNI students about study abroad opportunities available to them. Assist
students in locating and using materials in the Resource Library. Respond to
student inquiries by mail, e-mail or telephone. Explain application
procedures, assist with completing application forms, and explain ISIC card
application procedures. Talk to students informally at various campus events and
information fairs about studying abroad. Deliver short presentations to
small and large groups of students. Assist in organizing, maintaining and
updating information files in the Resource Library. Prepare and/or
distribute study abroad flyers/brochures around campus. Perform clerical
duties such as answering phones, copying, filing, and data entry. Additional
duties as assigned.
Internship/Practicum Available to undergraduate or graduate students
who are interested in learning more about how a study abroad office works and
may wish to pursue advising positions in a higher education setting as a career
option. Description of duties and responsibilities depends on the
student's interests, past experience, and departmental requirements, especially
