Technology, & Society: Environmental Health and Justice
(CAPSTONE
course) COURSE DESCRIPTION:This section of the
Capstone course is based on a theme of Environmental Health and Justice.
The focus is the relationship of the social categories of race, class
and gender with environmental and environmental health issues. The
course will strive for a balance between the political and scientific
dimensions of these subjects. The intention is to enhance environmental
literacy by exploring socio/cultural issues that are often obscured by
an emphasis just on the scientific/technological aspects of
environmental topics. This course will do this in both national and
international perspective and will encourage participating students to
discuss issues from both their country of origin and from an
international perspective. Registration deadline is February 1, 2008.
Registration is limited to 12 students. OFFERED BY: Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy

"I learned a lot from this
class... ... Romania was a very neat and unique country full of interesting
history and beautiful sights. I had a lot of fun on this trip even in times when
I was homesick and ready to come home, I wouldn't have changed my decision a
bit!" (Abby Anfinson, Senior, Summer 2005)
"Besides receiving academic
knowledge I gained plenty of cultural experience. I appreciate the initiative of
the Study Abroad Office and Dr. Zeman for the partnership and exchange program
between the University of Northern Iowa and Medical School of Cluj-Napoca. We
traveled, learned academic skills, learned about other cultures, shared
experiences and discovered other places and tastes not experienced before." (Ibrahim
Cisse, Summer 2005)
