Lyon, A Fashion City Lyon, located near the French Alps, is a European city at the crossroads of France, Italy and Switzerland, and is the second largest city in France. Lyon is the home of the Designer's Village, ten studios for young apparel designers located in Lyon's traditional silk quarter. Lyon is the current center of highly innovative textile, finishing and clothing industries, and is a breeding ground for young designers. Lyon is the home of University of Lyon 2, featuring top scholarship examining fashion's relationship to politics, film, and culture. Lyon is just 2 hours from Paris, 90 minutes from Geneva, Switzerland, 2 Hours from Milan, Italy, 3 hours from Barcelona, Spain, and 5 hours from London using modern rail service. Lyon is the historical silk center of France, and features a world famous silk museum, with the first silks woven in the silk quarter in 1536. Lyon hosts Lyon Mode City, the annual national lingerie trade fair and Premiere Vision, a leading global trade show for weavers also held each year. Lyon is a walking city, with outdoor markets, street musicians, art fairs, and outdoor cafes. Lyon is located in the heart of French wine country, with easy access to regional wine vineyards. Lyon is a European center of gastronomy, with world renowned chefs and markets selling 80 varieties of cheese made in the region.
