The city is also a mere 80 kilometers (50 Miles) from Gros Morne National Park, a United Nations World Heritage Site. SIR WILFRED GRENFELL COLLEGE Established in 1975, Sir Wilfred Grenfell College is a campus of Memorial University of Newfoundland, the largest university in Atlantic Canada. Grenfell offers the intimacy of a 1,300-student liberal arts college coupled with all the advantages of being part of a large, modern university. Our small class sizes and low instructor-student ratio mean that students get individual attention and develop excellent relationships with their professors and classmates. The College is a center for cultural activities with a number of theater productions each semester and on-going art gallery exhibits. ACADEMIC CALENDAR Exchange students take a full semester of courses--12 hours or more at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College. Semester (fall or spring) and academic year options are available. Students remain eligible for UNI financial aid and the Study Abroad Scholarship. Fall semester: October 1 - January 31; Semester break: February 1 - 28, 2006 Spring semester: March 1 - June 30. Summer holiday: July 2 - September 30, 2006 ACCOMMODATION & MEALS
Apartment fees are $1201 per student per semester. This will total $2402 for a
typical year in the apartments. The rate for the family apartments is $2000 per
semester. The rates include heat, light, telephone, and Internet access. All bedrooms (residence and chalets) are fully wired for both
Internet and digital phone systems. Phone, voicemail and Internet access is
included in the regular residence rate. Students may register at any time to
have Internet connections activated. Each chalet apartment unit has a fully equipped kitchen facility with the
exception of a microwave. Bedrooms are fully furnished with a bed with clothes
drawers, closet, computer desk, desk lamp, chair, and a filing cabinet. Each
apartment is wired for cable but it is the responsibility of the students to
contact the local cable company for cable services. Cable costs are the
responsibility of the students that decide to have this service, and are not
included in the semester cost of the apartment. Home stay programs are also an option, however accommodation costs are at the discretion of the homeowner. Students must pay an initial placement fee of $250, which should be sent with the homestay application form. Host families will receive from the students $140($20/day) per week or $600 per month. Monthly fees are to be paid directly to the host family on the first of each month. Host families will provide:

Students can expect to pay around $500 for books, depending on classes taken. Students are recommended to purchase the International Student Identity Card which provides an insurance policy. Study Abroad Scholarships and a variety of external funding options are available to those who qualify. ELIGIBILITY UNI students only. Applicants must be full-time students at the time of application, at least sophomore status during the session abroad, have departmental approval for participation, and an overall G.P.A. of 2.75.
