Attend class with a teacher in the Australian school system for two weeks, learning about the day-to-day operation of the school you are visiting and about the Australian school system in general. Gain exposure to a variety of cultures due to the diverse population in the Melbourne area.
This on-site travel seminar experience provides you with an opportunity to
build relationships with Australians, as well as an opportunity to develop a
more global perspective as an educator.
You will be housed in a single flat (apartment) with your own bathroom. It is a modest, yet comfortable facility. Included with housing are linens, telephone rental and all meals except the Saturday evening meal.
PROGRAM COST
The seminar is approximately $2115 if participating for no credit, or $2415 if participating in the seminar and earning two to three hours of graduate credit. Seminar fees include most meals, lodging, ground transportation and special events, as well as tours and program expenses.
Cost does not include airfare - approx. $1400 round-trip.
Students eligible for financial aid should contact the UNI Office of
Financial aid to make necessary arrangements. In most cases, students can
apply their financial aid toward (and their financial aid package can be
adjusted to reflect) the cost of participating in this program. Participants are
also eligible for the Study Abroad Scholarship and a variety of other funding options.

Two to three hours of graduate credit are available, as well as Continuing
Education Credits (CEUs) through the University of Northern Iowa Continuing
Education Division.
Lowell Hoeft has taught French in Iowa and Wisconsin schools for 33 years. He has also taught English at the middle school and high school levels for two years in the French school system. He has led more then 20 student groups abroad and has hosted exchange student groups in the U.S.
Cheryl Timion has taught all of the grades K through college in the course of her professional career in Connecticut, Iowa, and the Kansas City area. She has participated in a teacher exchange program in New Zealand and Fulbright-Hays projects in China and Russia.
Both Lowell and Cheryl are currently coordinators ni the Out of State and
International Student Teaching Program at UNI and have previously traveled to
New Zealand and Australia to work with educators in their schools.
REGISTRATION & PAYMENT
Group size is limited. Apply early!
A $200 deposit (check payable to UNI International Programs) is due with your registration application. Final payment is due February 18, 2005.
Note: A passport is required. If you do not have one, please apply for one at least three months prior to the date of departure.
Registration deadline is January 14, 2005.
