Documents & Copies
In case of an emergency, such as a lost or stolen document, it is important that at least one copy of the following is left with a trusted person in your students home country:
1. Contact information for:
- Your student (if housing has been assigned)
- On-site study abroad office
- U.S. Embassy or Consulate nearest to your student's location
2. Insurance policy number and how to submit claims
3. Copy of your student’s debit/credit card
4. Copy of your student’s signed passport & visa
5. Academic calendar of program
6. Copy of airfare itinerary
7. Duplicate lost passport kit (your student should take one abroad as well) containing:
- Two passport photos
- Official copy of his or her birth certificate
- Photocopy of passport’s photo, signature, and visa pages
Encourage your student (and for you, the parent) to scan and make electronic copies of all these documents, and either save via Google Docs or in an email; that way the information is easily accessable from all of over the world, and no paper documents risk getting lost.
