Services
Advising: The Study Abroad Center offers a range of advising and support services to students on such issues as program selection, academic planning, registration, credit transfer, financial aid, and cultural adjustment.
Pre-departure orientation programs and materials have been prepared to assist students in preparing for their study abroad experience. All students participating in our programs are
strongly encouraged to attend.
Tips for Travelers Seminars, presented by Council Travel, are offered each semester for all UNI students planning to study or travel abroad.
Re-entry programming and follow-up advising are designed to facilitate
your smooth transition back to life at home.
International Student Identity Card (ISIC). The
ISIC offers a variety of discounts and benefits on travel-related services and products. In addition to accident insurance, it also provides emergency evacuation and repatriation benefits for student travelers. The
Office of International Programs is the only official issuing site on campus.
To get your own card from this office, you will need:
- a completed application form,
- proof of student status (registrar's signature stamp as proof of registration),
- a passport-style photo, and
- a check for $22 made to the University of Northern Iowa.
You may also request your card directly from
STA Travel.
General Information Sessions
Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 4 p.m. in the Resource Library (28 Gilchrist hall)
Conducted by the either a student or professional staff, these introductory sessions cover topics every student planning to study abroad should know about. Attendance is limited to 6 - 8 people so please call ahead (273-7078) to sign up.
Resource Library
Before or after attending an information session, a visit to the Resource
Library is highly recommended as you begin to search for the perfect program. The library has information about study abroad and travel in general and about specific study, internship, work and volunteer opportunities. The library is staffed by students and is open during regular office hours.
