Moscow has been the capital city for the Russian Federation since its founding in 1991. Before that is was the seat of power for the Soviet Union, but Moscow has a rich history which started long before even that. The city is covered in historical architecture - old churches, soviet era buildings, and the Kremlin right at the city''s heart. Currently Moscow has a population of over 10.5 million people. That makes it not only the largest city in all of Russia, but the largest city in the whole of Europe. Being such a large city, Moscow is very spread out. This makes the city''s metro system a very nice and convinient way to get around. From its business centers to its shopping malls, everyone can find something to do in Moscow.
