Visit the Study Abroad Center and its web site to get information and find out how to get credit for study abroad.

Attend a General Information Meeting: Monday through Wednesday at 4 p.m. when classes are in session. These sessions are usually conducted by peer advisors and include a library tour. Info meetings are an opportunity for you to learn about a program, find out about applying to study abroad, to ask questions and to meet with fellow study abroad participants.

Check out what’s available in our Resource Library.

Research programs of interest.  Read and review all available information before you decide on a particular program. Go through catalogs and books in the resource library.  If you are considering a non-UNI program, request program information brochure from the program provider.  View the program web site, look at eligibility requirements, course options, housing information, cost, etc. Spend more time to research particular programs that interest you the most and select a program that best fits your overall needs and that you can afford.

Talk to your professors. They may have ideas about what you can study and where, and how this will fit into your major, your minor and your future plans.

Talk with someone who’s done it. Students who have studied abroad are one of the best sources of information and advice.

Attend the International Opportunities Fair held in September every year.

Been There Done That - Information sessions about particular UNI program are also scheduled throughout the year. Most feature a former participant and/or students and faculty form overseas.

Meet with a study abroad advisor. Schedule an individual appointment once you have a general idea or know the programs you are interested in. Call 273-7078 or stop by (59 Baker Hall) to make an appointment. The study abroad advisor will answer your questions, point out other programs you may not have considered, or resources that you may have overlooked in your search.

Consult with your academic advisor after you have made tentative plans to study abroad. Your advisor will be able to help you with course selection. Meet with your academic/faculty advisor to discuss how courses taken abroad might fulfill various requirements in your degree program. Review your degree audit and be prepared to discuss courses you wish to take overseas with your advisor.

Check out Financial Aid and Scholarships. You should be able to apply your federal financial aid toward the cost of an approved study abroad program and scholarships are also available.
