Introduction

Brochure 2012!

Students are given the opportunity to travel to China and teach English in a summer camp in Dongguan City, China, 50 miles from Hong Kong. Participants will work with elementary to college-aged Chinese children to develop their English language skills while earning up to five UNI credits. The program also includes a stipend, additional travel opportunities, $1,300 towards airfare, a free room, 3 meals daily, health insurance, bottled water, and Skype $ credit. Classes range in size from 10-25 students. The UNI students are expected to teach for a maximum of 25-30 hours per week. Each year, 18-30 UNI students are selected for the program. Applications are accepted on the "first come - first served basis".

Students also spend a few days touring in both Beijing and Hong Kong, giving them a true cultural experience. See the Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven, visit Yin Ping Shan Mouth Peak and the Summer Palace at the Kunming Lake, and walk the Great Wall!

Program City

Dongguan City is situated in the mid-south of Guangdong province, neighboring to Hong Kong and Macao. It was named Dongguan because it is situated to the east of Guangzhou and Guan grass is abundant there. The land area is 2,465 square kilometers and the registered population is 10 million. Dongguan is a relatively new city and is well known homeland of overseas Chinese, with many living abroad and one million of compatriots in Hong Kong and Macao. Dongguan is the place where China's modern history began. In September 1985 the county was promoted to a city and in January 1988 it was further elevated to a city of the prefecture level. Dongguan City is an important communication pivot in South China and is bestowed with rich tourist resources. Within a radius of 25 mi. there are two airports: Huangtian Airport of Shenzhen and Baiyun Airport of Guangzhou.

Tales From Abroad

"Everyone should study abroad at least once in their lifetime. Few if any people would ever regret it. No one can fully understand the greatness of studying abroad until they take the plunge. The China Summer Camp program was wonderful. I would recommend it to anyone, especially those who might not want to study abroad for a long period of time. The same experience is still provided."
