Program Cost

Estimated cost for this program is $3,500-$4,000. Students pay UNI tuition and fees (in-state or out-of-state), the $65 application fee, and the study abroad administration fee to participate. There will be additional costs for housing, food, books and supplies, round-trip airfare, international health insurance, and other personal expenses.

To ease the financial burden on participants, expenses are broken up into four main categories.

  1. The first large expense is the airfare; shortly after the program is full* and has been declared closed, participants will be notified by the Study Abroad Center how to go about purchasing the airfare (normally organized by Study Abroad Center).
  2. The second amount due will be for any reserved activities associated with the program (e.g., housing, local transportation abroad, some cultural activities, some meals); this amount will be due before the program start, usually in the spring semester prior to the program.
  3. Third, the UNI tuition and fees, the study abroad administration fee, and any remaining amounts will be placed on the U-bill.
  4. Finally, there will be onsite expenses consisting of meals, additional cultural program activities, and any other personal expenses.

*Note that summer programs fill at different times and so airfare purchase dates will vary greatly by each program. Please contact us if you have questions about a specific program.

Tales From Abroad

The capstone experience that I had provided a great way to see and do multiple things that would prove challenging if attempted without a group or on your own.  It provides an affordable way for students to travel abroad and have an opportunity to interact with cultures that are different from their own.  It in turn, helps participates communicate with, relate to, and understand different cultures and people in both professional and personal relationships.  I would highly recommend traveling abroad while in school.  It is one of the most worth while experiences offered at UNI and will benefit you in every aspect of your life.

- Zach, Summer 2010

I signed up for the London, Dublin, Cork capstone because I have never been out of the country, and I've always wanted to go to England and Ireland. There was ample opportunity to see the sites I wanted to see, and even some other ones I hadn't paid much attention to. In only 2 weeks, you got to see everything you wanted in London, and then Dublin, and touring the scenic beauty of Ireland from Cork was amazing. It was all more than anything I expected. You have so much fun and really learn to appreciate their culture and lifestyle (which is English speaking!).  Also, because it was during May, after finals, and we returned before June term started, I was able to make it fit into my schedule with ease! I'd highly recommend for anyone who is remotely interested in this Capstone to go ahead and make it happen!
