Proud Meeting, April 6: Substance Abuse with Mark Rowe

Location: Presidential Room, Maucker Union (lower level)
Date: Tuesday, April 6
Time: 7:00pm

Hello All!

Here's the meeting minutes from Tuesday April 6th's meeting

There are preliminary plans in place to push for a LGBTIQA center on campus. Both Iowa and Iowa State have these centers, so right now Proud Execs are working on figuring out where to start on organizing what needs to be done. I've personally been in contact with various college centers across the Midwest to get a few pointers. If you have any ideas, or would like to help, please let me or another exec member know!

Progress on the chalking incident: the department of Equity and Compliance met with me and a few other students who were involved in the incident on Monday morning of Pride Week and told me that the individual who erased the chalkings was in fact a UNI employee, but he was not acting on authority of a supervisor. There was much confusion (due to lack of policies on the part of the Physical Plant) in regards to what is too much chalking (if there is such a thing), and what is to be done when this is the case. I am currently working with the department of Equity and Compliance and the rest of the university on working on fixing these holes in policy. If you have any further questions regarding this, please feel free to contact me.

A great big huge thank you goes out to everyone who helped out with Pride Week this past week! There was a wonderful turn out to all of our events and we couldn't have done it without your help!

Next Tuesday we will be holding elections for 2010-2011 officers. If you are interested in running for a position on the executive board please come to the meeting prepared to answer the question "Why do you think you would fit the position of (whatever you are running for)?" You can run for more than one position should you not be elected into your first choice.

The meeting itself consisted of Mark Rowe discussing the higher risks of chemical dependency that LGBT individuals face.

I hope you're all having a wonderful week!

Sara
