SafeRide, Panther Shuttle, & Route 9

Through cooperation with NISG and local supporters, three transportation services are available for student use. SafeRide is a nightly shuttle service that runs on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the schoolyear. Click here for the schedule.

The Panther Shuttle is a free bus service offered to UNI students and staff. Transit Authority Buses run a regular route between the UNI Campus and major off campus concentrations of students.

Route 9 is now FREE for UNI students and faculty/staff to ride. We encourage you to take advantage of the additional transporation options it provides. The addition of Route 9 was made possilbe by NISG and we thank MET Transit for agreeing to provide this service to the UNI community. To take advantage of this service, simply present your UNI ID card at the time of the ride.

The Panther Shuttle runs from 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on weekdays.

Route 9 runs from 7:15 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Sunday thru Friday.
Route 9 runs from 10:15 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

Shuttle History

The Panther Shuttle was proposed by the Northern Iowa Student Government in the Fall of 1996. The trial run of the Shuttle was well recieved by the community, but it was limited to two and a half months in Fall 1997 and Spring 1998. The shuttle has returned for both Fall and Spring semesters in each of the last five years.

Now in its seventh year, the Panther Shuttle is designed to increase transportation convenience and reduce parking problems for university students. The service is free to students, faculty and staff. It funded in part by NISG, students activity fees, Public Safety/Parking Operations, the Department of Residence, and other area supporters.
